J.I. Packer once penned the words, “everyone is a Calvinist when he prays.” Â While I’m quite certain this statement is an outrage to those who hold a different doctrinal position, it is nonetheless a true statement. Â After all, why pray if God lacks the power to answer? Â And why seek to fulfill the Great Commission (Mt. 28:18-20) if God isn’t mighty to save? Â Far from hindering prayer and missions, the reformed/Calvinist (biblical!) understanding of the sovereignty of God empowers prayer and missions.
I’m planning to write a more thorough biblical defense of God’s sovereignty as the reason we pray and do missions, so, if you’re interested, be on the lookout!
